Democratizing agricultural trade union representation
Resolution #113 : Democratizing agricultural trade union representation (Official French version)
The Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA) was granted the exclusive privilege of representing all of Québec’s farmers following a poll held in 1974. Since then, the UPA's trade union monopoly has never been renewed or questioned by ballot. The Conservative Party of Québec believes that the time has come to allow Québec’s farmers to become members of the producers’ union of their choosing, in accordance with their own interests.
The same can be said in the artistic field, where actors and musicians, members of the monopolies that are the Union des artistes (UdA) and the Québec musicians Guild (GMMQ), respectively, have never had the opportunity to decide on whether they want to keep these union representation monopolies or not. A government formed by the Conservative Party of Québec will force these unions to allow their members do so at their annual general meetings, at least every 3 years.
