Funding for Télé-Québec
Resolution #110 : Funding for Télé-Québec (Official French version)
A government of the Conservative Party of Québec will gradually phase out the subsidies paid to Télé-Québec over three years, and reinvest the savings in improving the quality and quantity of French as a second language programs in Québec. This will increase the size of the market for local Québec artists’ works in television, film, and music.
Télé-Québec will then be transformed into a non-profit organization, like its counterpart PBS in the United States, and donations it receives from the public will be tax deductible as donations to a charity, as are donations to NPOs of the written press. If Télé-Québec wants to continue to receive public funding, it will only have to submit a project to broadcast French language and literacy courses on its airwaves.
